iPhone 6s problems: Owners report random phone shutdowns

Reminiscent of a previous glitch with its predecessor and other Apple products, the iPhone 6s shuts down for no apparent reason, users have reported.

According to Apple observer MacRumors, the shutdowns were reported as early as when Apple released the iPhone 6s, on Sept. 25. Since then, users have taken to different online platforms to voice out their concerns, and some have also offered workarounds.

Meanwhile, according to Reddit user patniemeyer, Apple support seems aware of the problem but not a solution just yet. "Happened to me four times since upgrading to 6s including most recent 9.0.2. Called Apple support and they ran a remote diagnostic after the last one. They told me to restore the OS but that sounded like 'we don't know' so I've been waiting," the user said.

The user also observed that as with glitches with older iPhones, the concern might have something to do with the software, noting, "In one instance I noticed that the mail app had eaten up about 30% of my battery so I suspect maybe it has something to do with that. By the way - people keep describing this as 'turning off' but the proper description would be locking up. Holding down both buttons does a hard reset and reboot."

It is not known what is causing the issue, with Apple yet to comment on the matter. However, some users think that a bug may have made it to the newest version of the iOS 9 platform. A Reddit user commented that the issue happened when the user's 128-GB iPhone 6S Plus was upgraded to iOS 9.1. The glitch stopped when the phone's iOS version was downgraded to an earlier 9.0.2 version.
