iPad Pro 2 release date, specs rumors: New feature spells demise of iPad Mini tablets?

Speculations suggest that with the new features that Apple will integrate into the second-gen iPad Pro, fans will more likely prefer the new lineup rather than the portable iPad Mini.

According to Gamenguide, recent rumors say that Apple will definitely bring an improved Apple Pencil feature for the iPad Pro 2. In addition, the new lineup will expand to include a new 10.5-inch variant. This means that the new iPad Pro 2 will have three iterations along with another 9.7-inch and the original 12.9-inch versions.

With the expansion and new features, the industry follower surmises that this may spell the discontinuation of the iPad Mini lineup. Although the smaller tablet series is more portable, it exchanges its small frame for step-down specs. With the release of the more powerful 9.7-inch iPad Pro 2 with Apple Pencil, some fans may ultimately upgrade to the new slate.

In addition, though there are iPad Mini 5 rumors currently floating online, not much has been said about supposed leaks on the new iPad Mini addition.

As for the Apple Pencil, the Cupertino-based tech giant has yet to come out with specifics on the specs of the second-gen.

However, the feature add-on is likely to come out, given that Apple's fiercest rival Microsoft is said to come out with an improved Surface Pen for its upcoming Surface Pro 5 slate.

Meanwhile, the iPad Pro 2 is shaping up to be a full-spectrum lineup. Analysts agree that the 9.7-inch version is likely the entry-level version of the three, coming out with an A9X chipset.

Meanwhile, the new 10.5-inch version, as well as the 12.9-inch variant, will offer step-up specs starting with the new A10X processor.

However, although Apple has already confirmed a press event for Sept. 7, it may still be some time before the iPad Pro 2 comes out. Speculations suggest an early 2017 outing for the new lineup.
