iPad Pro 2 release date, specs: Next version to see the light of day in 2017?

Will fans see a second-gen iPad Pro lineup soon? Apple

Speculations suggest that Apple will hold an early 2017 launch for the upcoming iPad Pro 2 and will finally reveal the much-anticipated iPad Air 3 this September.

Predictions have said that since Apple has already come out with an iPad Pro for this year, there is no room for another mid-size slate, and so the iPad Air 3 will have to be delayed once again, this time for an early 2017 release. However, recent rumors have suggested that Apple may be thinking of doing the opposite, since most of the fans are already clamoring for an all-around, reasonably priced Apple slate, which the iPad Air series is known to be.

This makes it possible for Apple to launch its next-gen iPad Pro 2 early next year instead. In addition, fans already have at least two iterations to choose from in this year's collection – the smaller 9.7-inch iteration launched earlier this year, and the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro from last year. Both sport almost the same top-tier specs, targeted for professional-level tasks.

Meanwhile, a 2017 release for the next iPad Pro is also more likely based on its rumored specs. According to The Motley Fool, the iPad Pro 2 will showcase the next-gen specs and features for the Cupertino-based company, and a September 2016 release will only eclipse the other product launches like the iPhone 7. Rumored specs and features for the next iPad Pro include A10X chipset, some tweaks and improvements in the design, and may even switch from Retina to an OLED display, much like what the company has reportedly done with the iPhone 7. In addition, it is also said that there may also be cutting-edge features like 4K recording.

As to when can fans expect the new iPad Pro 2, a definite release date has yet to be confirmed, though Apple habitually starts each year with a Spring launch event, as early as March.
