iPad Air 3 release date rumors: Apple Pencil and massive upgrades expected with next iteration

The Apple iPad Pro. Rumor has it that the next iPad Air 3 will have similar features. Apple

Previously, it was hinted that Apple will be coming out with an iPad Air 3 soon. However, two launch events have already come and gone but without the new iPad Air in sight. Instead, fans were introduced to the smaller version of Apple's recent flagship, the iPad Pro.

Speculations suggest that Apple will be taking a leaf out of the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro and will remodel the upcoming iPad Air 3 to be a counterpart of it, down to Apple Pencil support and above-average specs.

According to WCCFTech, the new iPad Air 3 will focus on performance, and improvements on build and design are also expected. Most notable of the new features of the upcoming iPad Air will be the drastic change in its internals. As one of the flagships of the Cupertino-based tech giant, the iPad Air lineup is one of the most popular devices among Apple fans. This may mean that Apple will be using the iPad Air 3 as a launching vehicle for its tech upgrades, including the rumored A10X chipset. In addition, a RAM upgrade is also expected.

Meanwhile, it is also said that Apple will be adding stylus support as a standard for its mobile lineups. Should this be proven true, then the iPad Air 3 is expected to launch with Apple Pencil features. Other rumored specs include 3D Touch display (which will complement the stylus support), as well as a complete revamp of its body to the 7000-series aluminum build, the same design on the iPhone 6s. In addition, while the iPad Air 3 may retain its signature dimensions, its screen will get an upgrade to Quad HD display.

As for its release date, rumors place this year's WWDC as a launch event for the iPad Air 3. However, although the event takes place in mid-2016, Apple is also known to hold an annual September launch event, and an announcement then is also plausible.
