Huawei Mate 9 release date rumors: Huawei Mate 8 successor already in development?

Huawei has just released its top-tier flagship, the P9 lineup. However, since Huawei has other flagship lineups under its brand, the company is said to be following it up with a new project soon. Speculations suggest that a new Huawei Mate is already in the works.

According to GizmoChina, analyst Pan Jiutang has revealed that the upcoming Huawei Mate 9 is the showcase device for the new homegrown processor from the company, the Kirin 960 chipset. However, since the current-gen Huawei Mate 8 has just been released, it can be expected that the Mate 9 will not come out until the latest lineup iteration has gotten some foothold in the market.

The unveiling for the Mate 9 will depend on when Huawei is willing to reveal the Kirin 960 SoC, though. Huawei seems to be going with a lineup model similar to South Korea-based Samsung, who has its own Galaxy S-series flagship as well as top-tier Note lineup. If the much-rumored Galaxy Note 6 is released earlier than expected this year (rumor has it that It may come out as early as August), then Huawei may think of going head-to-head by releasing the Mate 9 around the same time.

For its internals, not much is known about the upcoming Huawei flagship. However, since it will eventually come out with the next-gen Kirin 960 SoC, it can be expected that the other features for its specs sheet will be top-notch as well. This means that there will be at least 4GB of RAM inside, and it may go as high as a 6GB one, to make sure that the Huawei Mate 9 trumps the competition. In addition, it is also said that Huawei is thinking of a 20MP camera setup for the Mate 9, and that the company may even go as far as making it a top-tier setup comparable to the recently released Huawei P9, which carries a dual-cam setup co-engineered with Leica.
