Huawei Mate 9 release date, specs, news: will the Mate 9 have a 5.9-inch display?

The new supposed specs and features for the upcoming Huawei Mate 9 list a 5.9-inch display, a bit smaller than the 6.0-inch screen compared to its predecessor.

According to Phone Arena, the 5.9-inch display is consistent with earlier rumors of the new phablet, although Huawei has yet to come out with confirmed details for the upcoming flagship. However, it is revealed that fans may not have to wait long to see the Mate 9 in action, as the new device is expected to debut early next month. Huawei has already confirmed a flagship launch slated for Nov. 3, although it did not say what the press event is all about.

Aside from a new screen dimension, other improvements and changes are also expected to come with the new flagship. The 5.9-inch display is expected to have full HD resolution. Meanwhile, although it remains unconfirmed, there is a high possibility that Huawei will use the new Kirin 960 chipset on the Mate 9. This is highly likely as Huawei just recently announced the new processor. In addition, previous Mate iterations also carried then-current Kirin chipsets. The previous-gen Mate 8, for example, was released close to the announcement of the Kirin 955 chipset late last year.

It is also said that Huawei is intending for the Mate 9 to be released as a full flagship lineup, with at least three iterations included in the series. The base model for the flagship will carry 4 GB of RAM, and there will possibly be two onboard storage configurations. Meanwhile, a third option for the lineup is a top-tier Mate 9, featuring massive 6 GB of RAM, as well as up to 256 of native storage.

Meanwhile, it is also expected that Huawei will use the same dual-camera setup for the Mate 9. However, it is unclear if the whole lineup, or only the 6-GB RAM version, will get the feature. Rumor has it that, much like another Huawei flagship, the P9, the upcoming Mate 9 will also come out with Leica-engineered optics.
