Huawei Mate 9 release date, specs, news: upcoming device to come with Leica-branded dual camera setup

Huawei has confirmed a press launch scheduled on Nov. 3, ostensibly to debut its newest flagship, the Mate 9. Prior to the launch, supposed leaks has already come out with the specs and features of the new lineup, confirming that the Mate 9 will have a Leica co-engineered dual camera setup.

According to Phone Arena, a post from the China-based social media site Weibo reportedly showcases an instruction manual for the Huawei Mate 9. Highlighted in the document is the dual-cam setup for the new flagship. In addition, it is confirmed that the new camera will also be co-engineered by Leica. This is the same as the dual cam setup for Huawei's other flagship, the P9. However, the Mate 9 gets massive improvement as the Leica dual-cam carries 20 and 12 MP optics.

Meanwhile, the supposed instruction manual also shows that the dual cam setup for the main camera on the Huawei Mate 9 will have a vertical arrangement rather than the side-by-side setup one, as featured in the Huawei P9. Underneath the camera is the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. The document also confirms that the new iteration will have USB Type-C connectivity.

Aside from the dual cam setup, most of the specs and features of the Mate 9 have already made their way online even before the supposed launch next month. As a flagship, the new lineup will sport the newest Kirin 960 chipset, paired with either 4 or 6 GB of RAM. There are also a number of configurations for onboard storage. In addition, there is supposed to be two variants for the flagship. The base version of the Mate 9 will feature a 5.9-inch display with full HD resolution. Meanwhile, there is supposed to be a Mate 9 Pro, with the same screen dimensions. However, the display will have QHD resolution and will come out with up to 256 GB of native storage. Both versions will launch with dual-curved edge display feature.
