Huawei Mate 9 release date, specs, news: iteration with dual-curved display only hearsay?

Speculations suggest that the upcoming Huawei flagship will come out as a full lineup, in both regular-screen and dual-curved display versions. However, reports out of China say that it may not be the case and that the Huawei Mate 9 will only feature a regular, flat display.

According to Gizmo China, a post on China-based social media site Weibo has debunked the dual-curved display as one of the features of the top-tier Huawei Mate 9 Pro. Reportedly, analyst Sun Changxu said that the upcoming flagship will have 5.88-inch LCD screen with full HD resolution. The component is supplied by tech firms JDI and LG. However, there is no note that the displays will be two versions, flat and dual-curved.

Should this turn out to be true, then there may be just one display option for the Huawei Mate 9, and that there may not be a Pro version for the device. Previous speculations mentioned that the new flagship will have a Pro variant, with the display as one of its step-up features. Instead of the regular, flat-feature display with full HD resolution, the supposed Mate 9 Pro will sport a 5.9-inch dual-curved edge display with QHD resolution. Reportedly, the bump in display tech will be one of the signature features of the Pro version since the iteration will also offer virtual reality content support, particularly for Google's Daydream VR.

Meanwhile, fans will not have that long to wait to check out if the reports out of China are true. Huawei has already revealed that it will launch the Mate 9 on Nov. 3. However, aside from teasers, the tech maker has not yet come out with confirmed details on the new flagship. Supposed leaks point out, though, that the flagship will be run by the new Kirin 960 chipset with at least 4 GB of RAM, while a step-version will feature a 6-GB one.
