'Horizon Zero Dawn' release date rumors: E3 appearance likely but may not be out until 2017

Horizon Zero Dawn Guerilla Games

Speculations suggest that the upcoming PS4-exclusive, role-playing game "Horizon: Zero Dawn" will figure prominently at the 2016 E3, but will not come out until next year.

According to rumors, the original 2016 schedule for "Horizon: Zero Dawn" is set back, and the game will now release in 2017. It is supposed that the game had to be adjusted to suit the upcoming PS4 Neo, the upgraded console system said to be coming out soon. While the current crop of games will be playable on the new console, the new upcoming titles after October will need to have two modes – a base mode and a Neo mode, in order to be compatible to both the current-gen PS4 system and the upcoming Neo upgrade.

While it is still not official that the game's release date is being delayed, the current poster for "Horizon: Zero Dawn" seems to be a clue. In the poster that lists the game as being one of the titles present on the 2016 E3 trade show, there is no mention of the 2016 release period. This leads to further suppositions that a release date for the game is still not finalized, and a 2017 outing is still a possibility.

Different from other role-playing games recently released, "Horizon: Zero Dawn" will not have a multiplayer feature, although it is already confirmed that the game will have a "social feature" that is expected to connect players at some point. Meanwhile, confirmed details on the game itself are still vague – story-wise, the game is set a thousand years in the future, where mankind must hunt mechanical, robot-like creatures. Players will take on the role of Aloy, a member of a small, indigenous tribe that hunts these creatures.

The game is first announced at E3 2015, so it is expected that Sony will showcase the title prominently on this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.
