“Hope for the City” Prayer Gathering to Save London

Jointly organised by the Evangelical Alliance of the United Kingdom (EAUK) and Premier Radio, a prayer gathering for London will be held on Friday 11 June.

The prayer gathering named “Hope for the City” is inherited from the success of the “Hope for London Leaders Prayer Gathering” in 2003. This year, the prayer gathering has extended its coverage even further. Instead of only involving the leaders, it has been opened up to the public. Those who are interested are welcome to walk into Westminster Chapel starting from 6:30pm this Friday.

This event aims to encourage the church in London to realise all that God has called us to do together. “As we pray with one another, we are trusting that God will touch the people of the capital.” EAUK comments, “With so many strategic events taking place over the next 12 months, from the Mayoral elections to the Soul in the City event, it is time for the people of God to stand together and pray for one another and for our city.”

During the 2 hour prayer gathering, they will not only pray for London, but prayer for Soul in the City will also be incorporated. Soul in the City is a ministry associated with churches focusing on youth evangelical work through lively and creative means. Dividing the City London into 7 districts including West, North West, North, East, South East, South, South West, the group has been leading active social project and prayer drives within the different regions.

Soul in the City is now preparing for this massive event for the summer, after proving to be very impressive and influential in the revival of community and city churches in England. It is significant and meaningful to remember and pray for this new light within Christians in the London prayer gathering.

Moreover, on the prayer meeting, Terry Virgo was invited to speak about the role of the church in our society. Terry Virgo is the Director of New Frontiers International, a worldwide family of churches with a passionate commitment to build the church according to New Testament principles.

Virgo is a well-known Bible teacher who travels widely in the UK and overseas, encouraging church leaders and their congregations to build on Biblical foundations and to be effective Disciples of Christ. In his most recent book “Does the Future have a Church?”, he discovers some answers by looking at Paul's letter to the Ephesians. His visions for a church that Jesus wants in the 21st century has excited many.

“Unity amidst diversity is what God is looking for. Not conformity but unity based upon Biblical essentials. I doubt whether anything could achieve this without sustained prayer leading to love and gospel action.” Gerald Coates from Pioneer Trust said after joining last year’s prayer gathering.

“This is a tremendous time for us as leaders to be encouraged, refreshed and strengthened as we pray for and with each other.” Les Isaac from Ascension Trust commented.
