'Halo 5: Guardians' release date fall 2015; TV series being worked on by Steven Spielberg

Microsoft's in-house tech and gaming partner 343 Industries confirmed that it has plans to release the game sequel "Halo 5: Guardians" for Xbox One in fall 2015.

The fifth generation of the Halo game series will pick up after the events in "Halo 4". The game was of the final major titles to be released for the Xbox 360 console before Microsoft launched the Xbox One late last year.

343 Studios revealed very little information about the upcoming game. However, the protagonist of "Halo 5" will still be Master Chief, a super enhanced soldier, who will find himself on the crossroads. The final scenes of Halo 4 left fans with an image of Master Chief mourning the loss of Cortana, which is a nearly sentient artificially intelligent computer program who would appear in holographic form.

"'Halo 5: Guardians' is obviously a big deal for us. It's the next chapter in the Master Chief saga. It's also a big deal for us because of the transition to the Xbox One platform. All of the 'Halo' games -- more or less -- have added something to the Xbox ecosystem," said Frank O'Connor, franchise development director at 343, as cited by Los Angeles Times. It was initially speculated that the sequel of "Halo" will arrive this year after Microsoft teased fans at last year's E3 event with a cloaked figure known to many as Master Chief.

General Manager at 343 Studios Bonnie Ross said that more details about the "Halo" franchise will be revealed at Microsoft's presentation at the Electronic Entertainment Expo on June 9. E3 is the largest trade show for the gaming industry. New games and series are expected to be launched on the said event.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that a television series of "Halo" is also in the works with Steven Spielberg taking the helm. The series was rumored to be based on the upcoming "Halo 5: Guardians" and the TV series will debut next year. Also, a digital series of "Halo series" was purported to be executive produced by Ridley Scott.
