It's only been two and a half months since the successful release of "Guardian's of the Galaxy" on the big screen, and now, Marvel is about ready to give fans another treat as it prepares to launch the animated version of the movie. Set to be shown on Disney XD in 2015, the "Marvel's Guardian of the Galaxy" animated series will feature the franchise's beloved characters in cartoons.

The announcement was made by Marvel's Head of Television, Jeph Loeb, at the Marvel panel in the recently-held New York Comic Con.

Marvel's news page quotes the exec as saying, "This is a very exciting time for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe by developing the first-ever 'Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy' animated series. After starring in the biggest movie of 2014, everyone wants more of Star-Lord and his crew – now they'll get it."

The show will welcome Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer to the small screen. They are, of course, out to save the universe from evil forces.

The same level of excitement is shared by Disney XD, which warmly welcomes the characters to the channel.

Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Disney XD, Marc Buhaj, said, "The movie and franchise quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. We're looking forward to working with the great team at Marvel Television to deliver an engaging animated series that fans can enjoy each week."

"Guardian's of the Galaxy" grossed $94 million in its opening weekend, and currently has worldwide gross earnings of $654.7 million. And unlike many other movies, GotG's box-office earnings coincide with critic response, having garnered generally positive reviews, including a 91 percent approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

"Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy" will be shown on Disney XD in 2015, during the channel's Marvel Universe programming block.
