'GTA V' PC version: Fake beta download plagues users

Fans of the highly popular game "GTA V" are excited about the PC version release of the game. Just recently, there was a free PC Beta download available, prompting players and fans alike to quickly download the game only to discover that it was a fake.

Rockstar Games did announce that "GTA V" will be coming to the next-generation PS4 and Xbox One consoles soon - November 18 to be exact. As for the PC edition, it will be released on January 27, 2015, which is still a couple of months wait. Anxious and bewildered, the PC community took the chance to download the PC Beta immediately when it was made purportedly made 'available,' only to discover that it was all a scam.

In a report by Xbox360News.com, a "GTA V" PC Beta download was available via Steam and there were photos of players playing the PC version that went around too. There was even a PC torrent going around as well. Gamers were so excited with the leak and just getting hands on the game that they downloaded the huge file, all 19GB of it. Unfortunately, the scam tricked a lot of people, who unfortunately downloaded 19GB worth of viruses and malware.

Rockstar Games was made aware of the fake download scam and they have issued an official statement. It read "Please Note: There is no pre-release 'Beta' test for Grand Theft Auto V. If you see Ads or solicitations to join a beta program, beware as this is likely some type of online phishing scam. For all the official details on Grand Theft Auto V, stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire."

Rockstar Newswire is where official news and updates about Rockstar Games are announced. Rockstar wants players and fans to always check the site for updates in order to prevent such fake download and scams from happening again. Rockstar also noted that there are phishing scams going around too.
