'Grey's Anatomy' season 11: Will Meredith and Derek break up?

There have been a bunch of spoilers for season 11 of "Grey's Anatomy." However, a new spoiler may shock fans.

In the past 10 seasons of "Grey's Anatomy," main character Meredith Gray has seen it all and has been through the worst. But for the show's writer Shonda Rhimes, Meredith can handle more... more heartache that is.

In the season 10 finale, Derek accepted a new job in DC, while Meredith stayed in Seattle. How will this long-distance love affair affect the couple?

Rhimes talked to TVLine about where the relationship of Meredith and Derek is heading.

Rhimes stated: "I'm not going to say that Meredith and Derek are never going to break up. I'm not going to say that simply because we're writing a story and we're on this long, long journey. I've learned never to say absolutes about anything anymore. People always say, 'Seven seasons ago you said... 'Well, I didn't think we'd still be here."

Rhimes wants to tell a story about a marriage that would last forever, one that would beat all odds. She wants to show how much hard work there is in making a marriage work. Rhimes, herself, said that she wants to see the couple fight for it.

"I was not interested in telling the story of a really good marriage that breaks up because of this," Rhimes said. "There's work involved in keeping an amazing marriage amazing, and I would personally like to watch what happens when [they try] to fight through it."

While Meredith and Derek's love story is at Rhimes' disposal, there's a chance that the couple will stick it out. However, you can bet that Meredith and Derek will go through hell and back to survive the storm of challenges headed their way.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 will return Sept. 25 at 8/7 c.
