Rockstar Games has yet to confirm the development of a new "Grand Theft Auto" title down the road, although rumors are rife that the sixth major installment is underway. According to the latest scoop, Rockstar indeed has plans to release "Grand Theft Auto VI" in the future, although the fans should be more patient as the "GTA V" follow-up may not be ready until 2022.

As reported by Comic Book, it is unlikely that Rockstar will be able to finish developing "Grand Theft Auto VI" anytime soon. At this point, the earliest possible release date of the game could be sometime in 2022, although that will still depend on the progress on the studio.
Barring any delays or issues, there is a possibility that "Grand Theft Auto VI" will drop sooner, but the fans should not get their hopes up. This is because Rockstar is still supporting the online component of "Grand Theft Auto V," and more content packs are expected to arrive in the coming months, or even years, as long as the title remains profitable.
There are rumors that Rockstar will officially reveal the first look at "Grand Theft Auto VI" at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), but that sounds suspicious as the studio will more likely be focused on the "Red Dead Redemption 2" promotion, which will be out this October. There is a better chance of "GTA VI" being announced at E3 2019.
Meanwhile, there have been speculations that "Grand Theft Auto VI" will not only focus on a single location, as part of Rockstar's efforts to make the upcoming entry the biggest one yet in the franchise.
It was claimed that "GTA VI" would bring the players back to the infamous Vice City, although it is possible that the Miami-based location is just one of the several cities to be included in the game's huge map. There could be separate locations based on actual cities in the United States that are interconnected to form a single open-world environment.
Another interesting "GTA VI" rumor is that the game could also be the first to introduce cities outside the United States territory. Players will have the chance to travel outside the American soil and reach London, or even Tokyo City.
However, Rockstar has yet to confirm if "Grand Theft Auto VI" would go that far in terms of the setting. If this turns out to be correct, the players can expect new modes of transportation aside from riding in cars, as the game could also feature airplanes and boats that will transport players to distant cities.
