Speculations suggest that GoPro will be looking into a niche market when it launches the Hero 5 later this year.

According to Crossmap, although the upcoming action cam will share similar specs with the current-gen Hero 4, the new GoPro Hero 5 will focus on a niche market, the athletic community. This may mean that there will be some design changes in the upcoming accessory, such as a slimmer profile and a smaller body. Meanwhile, there will also be some upgrades under the hood, like eventually having an option for 1080p recording at 30fps.

Gamenguide predicts that one of the heavy upgrades that the GoPro Hero 5 will receive is the maximum specs in its recording feature. Allegedly, since it will focus on sports captures, the next action cam may allow 4K resolution for both its videos and still images. Meanwhile, connectivity will also get a boost and will reportedly have dedicated and enhanced software and connection features that will let users store files even on the cloud.

Other rumored specs include an improved element-resistant rating and an enhanced water-proofing feature. In addition, it is said that the GoPro Hero 5 will also come out with either a current-gen Qualcomm chipset or an A10 chip. Long usage will also be an extra bonus, since the next GoPro Hero cam is said to pack a 2,800-mAh battery, a better capacity than its predecessor.

GoPro has yet to finalize a release date for the Hero 5 action cam, though company CEO Nicholas Woodman has been quoted previously as saying, "Later this year, we will introduce the most connected and convenient GoPro we have ever made, Hero 5." This may mean that the new action cam will appear in Q4 this year, in October at the earliest.
