Google is preparing for the release of the second-generation Google Pixel, loosely referred to as Google Pixel 2, with several leaks coming in the past few weeks about its possible features. Just a few days ago, the company seemed to have confirmed that Google Pixel 2 is already in the works through some leaked codes. Now, reports reveal that Google is working on a deal pertaining to the screen of the upcoming device.
As revealed in a Korean-language report from Economic Times, Google is investing in a mega deal with LG Display worth $880 million for a large supply of flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. This transaction will not only ensure that Google will have sufficient materials needed for Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL screens but will also promise a stylish and better look for the next iteration of the devices.
The said flexible OLED display is in the same league of technology used by Samsung in its latest flagships — Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus — for their infinity display.
According to the news, LG is yet to sign the deal as it is still "carefully considering" the proposal. One factor for this is maybe because Apple is also looking into the same technology and is planning to order a huge quantity, especially since it will launch the 10<sup>th anniversary of iPhone this year.
As for other specifications, the upcoming Google Pixel devices are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. The handsets are also anticipated to have enhanced camera and water-resistant features.
In an interview with Android Pit at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month, Rick Osterloh, head of the company's hardware department, revealed that Google Pixel 2 will continue to cater to the premium market.
The new Google Pixel devices may come sometime in October this year.
