Google Nexus 7 2016 release date: New tablet to arrive with HTC-made Nexus phones?

Previously, fans thought that the much-rumored 2016 edition of a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet would be showcased at the Google I/O Conference. However, speculations suggest that the new slate will come out together with other new Google products like the HTC-made Nexus 2016 phones.

According to Breathecast, since Google is planning to showcase the full version of its new Android N platform with new Nexus products, the refreshed Nexus 7 and the rumored follow-ups to the Nexus 5X and 6P will have to be released later in the year.

As showcase products, it seems that the three (there are two rumored Nexus phones) products will be unveiled at one launch event, most likely in September. This will coincide with another press launch reportedly from Google's fiercest competitor, Apple.

While Google has yet to confirm if a new Nexus 7 is indeed coming out, rumors say that the tech giant is making it a top-tier tablet instead of the budget-friendly specs that previous Nexus 7 tablets are known for. Speculations suggest that the 2016 edition of the Nexus 7 slate will feature a Snapdragon 820 processor, at least 3GB of RAM and massive onboard storage.

Google waiting for the full version of Android N before releasing the Nexus 7 2016 seems to be conflicting, with reports saying that the new slate will come out with a layered version of Android N instead. Reportedly, in an interview, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that there is an idea to "thoughtfully add more features on top of Android or Nexus phones," since there is plenty of "software innovation to be had."

It is unclear if Google will be layering its Android N platform for other products too, like the rumored Nexus 5X and 6P follow-ups, which will reportedly be made together with HTC.
