Google Nexus 6 dropped for Android Silver handset launch in February 2015?

Google Nexus 6 may no longer see the light of the day as tech giant is rumored to launch the Android Silver line in February 2015.

Rumors claimed that Google will discontinue the Nexus line in lieu of the more premium Android Silver range. The new rumors sparked due to a tweet by reliable tipster @evleaks on May 16 who posted "There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus." then it was followed by another tweet "Don't worry there's a silver lining to this cloud..."

This is not the first time that consumers have heard of this rumor. Last month, The Verge sparked stories that the Android Silver program will feature more high-end devices to battle head on with competitors such as iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S5. The report also cited unnamed sources saying that the current Nexus 5 will be the last smartphone to be released by Google. Moreover, the report stated that Google will drop the tablet line starting with the Nexus 10 2.

The inception of the Android Silver program is to deliver devices with top of the line specs and features as well as pure Android software. According the the grapevine, the release of Android Silver will be followed by Google sterilizing the system that will prevent other devices such as Nokia X in capitalizing on the operating system. Google wants to regain full control on which manufacturers can adopt the open source Android OS.

As usual, Google has not disclosed any details about its roadmap for the year and onwards. Moreover, it has not confirmed nor denied the ongoing rumors about its devices.

Meanwhile, some reports claimed that Google Nexus 6 will pack a 64-bit version of its Snapdragon 800-series chipset clocked at 3 GHz; 5.2-inch full-HD, curved LCD display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass; 3 GB RAM; 13 MP camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera; Bluetooth; NFC; Micro-USB; Wi-Fi; and 4G.
