Google Clips specs, features, release date news: Google's AI-powered camera now on sale

Clips is Google's newest AI-powered camera. Google

Google Clips, the artificial intelligence-powered camera, is now on sale.

The little camera, which has been shrouded in mystery since it was announced last October, quietly went on sale over the weekend. Google may have been discreet about its features, but that did not stop consumers from buying it soon after its quiet release.

Without so much as an announcement, Google released Clips on its website for $249. The shipping is free. However, consumers still have a bit of wait after all, with delivery dates scheduled between Feb. 27 and March 5.

According to The Verge, Google has also stopped taking order, with the website directing customers to a wait list. The tech giant instead promised potential buyers that they will be notified via e-mail once the device is available again.

Google Clips targets parents who like taking photos of their kids but could not seem to take good ones, thanks to their children's constant moving about.

AI-powered, Clips is capable of knowing the best time to capture great moments. Google claims the new generation cameras were trained by professional photographers.

Its always-on setting made some doubt the idea of a device watching them all the time, waiting for them to make a picture-perfect move. Google, however, clarified that the data Clips collects will not be shared with any external servers, as Clips has its own hardware.

Google Clips is a 12-inch square camera with 12-megapixel sensor that can take both videos and photos. It has 130-degree field of view and can store up to three hours of video in its 16 GB storage. The small box type camera also has a back-up shutter button, just in case the user needs it.

The AI-powered device does not require Internet connection to work, but it could sync its content to Google Photos if the user asks it to.
