'Frozen 2' movie sequel: Release date not announced, Disney has not begun working on it yet

Given that Disney's "Frozen" became a gigantic hit all over the world, it's a no-brainer that there should definitely be a sequel for it, namely "Frozen 2." And rightfully so, Disney has teased fans about the movie sequel, but the truth is, they haven't been working on it.

A couple of weeks ago, Disney confirmed that there will be a new short film for "Frozen" entitled "Frozen Fever." "Frozen Fever" will feature a new song from Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez who made "Let It Go."

The synopsis of the short film reads:

"It's Anna's birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa's icy powers may put more than just the party at risk."

Aside from the short film, Disney confirmed that there will be a Broadway show for "Frozen" and, of course, "Once Upon A Time" will feature Arendelle and the characters of the hit animated film in its current season. However, these are all just teasers compared to what fans are yearning for—a full-length movie sequel.

The thing is, even though Disney knows how much a follow-up movie will make them richer, it isn't a priority at this moment. According to iDigitalTimes, Disney sees "Frozen" as a golden goose rather than a cow... and one doesn't milk geese. It does make sense for Disney to wait a while or to take the time they need to create a fitting sequel to "Frozen" because that's what the movie deserves.

Come to think of it, Disney's hits like "Beauty and the Beast," "Little Mermaid," "Aladdin" and "Lion King" sequels weren't rushed as well. Disney stuck with the original movies for years and then released sequels through DVD. As for "Frozen," there's no rush needed either because everything that Disney has lined up for it, including the merchandise, video games, short film, Broadway show and other things, will keep everyone interested in "Frozen."

Disney CEO Bob Iger said in an interview that he understands why the filmmakers aren't rushing into making "Frozen 2." In order to make the perfect movie sequel, the filmmakers have to write the perfect follow-up story for it. Otherwise, "Frozen" won't be as good anymore and that would surely disappoint everyone.

Patience can go a long way here. In the meantime, fans may want to stick to "Frozen Fever," "Once Upon A Time," or catching the Broadway show. An announcement for the sequel's release date is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
