Bestselling Christian author and Proverbs 31 Ministries president Lysa TerKeurst has just launched a new Bible app called "First 5," which encourages people to devote the first five minutes of their day to God before they do anything else.

"When social media and email are the first things we look at in the morning, our hearts get set on busyness and wrapped up in the shouts of the world. I want to equip women to truly put God first — to truly give Him the first moments of their day — through this app," TerKeurst explained to The Christian Post.

During the first two days of its launch, the "First 5" app had over 100,000 downloads, and made it to number two in the Lifestyle app category of the Apple store. The number of downloads even doubled in just a few short days after that.

Through the app, users will be navigated through the entire Bible starting with the book of John. "From there, we'll go through Genesis and as we study together, we'll unpack each book using one verse per chapter, per day. So, instead of your verse of the day being random, you'll start to sense real progress in your understanding of the Bible by using First 5 for just 5 minutes each morning," says the app in its "Welcome to First 5!" message.

First-time users will be greeted with a message that is linked to the day's devotional theme, which is written by TerKeurst herself or other members of the Proverbs 31 Ministries writing team.

Not only will users read about Bible entries, they will also be encouraged to write about the lessons they have learned through the brief devotional. Afterwards, they will be prompted to recite a prayer with relation to the day's devotional message.

"First 5" can be downloaded either through Google Play or the iTunes store.
