'Fear The Walking Dead' plot news: Storyline revealed

Fear the Walking Dead AMC

The plot of "Fear the Walking Dead," the spin-off of the popular American television thriller "The Walking Dead" has already been revealed by no less than the creator of the series.

After months of being tightlipped about the details of the new series, "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly that "Fear The Walking Dead" will focus on the early days of the zombie apocalypse.

According to Kirkman, the spin-off will focus on a pair of teachers, Madison and Travis, played by Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis, respectively.

Kirkman explained that "Fear The Walking Dead" show runners chose to make their lead characters schoolteachers because the profession translates to useful skills such as intelligence, management skills and ability to deal with overwhelming challenges—which will come in handy during the zombie apocalypse.

"It would happen very organically. It would be happening for a while behind the scenes. In pockets of civilization there would be news stories that didn't really make sense and didn't seem connected. And that's kind of where we pick things up," Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly.

The lead characters of "Fear the Walking Dead" will have a "non-traditional" family, both coming from unsuccessful marriages. Madison has an over-achieving daughter, Alicia (played by Alycia Debnam-Carey) and a son who dropped out of college, Nick (played by Frank Dillane).

Kirkman also said that fans can look forward to a unique look of zombies in "Fear the Walking Dead."

"There's going to be a lot of differences and definitely a lot of cool things for fans to catch on to, because they're actually going to see the early days for the first time," he said.

The new series will air on AMC this summer.
