'Fallout 4' PS4 mods release date, updates: Bethesda weighing up options on mod support alternatives

Developer Bethesda is said to be looking for alternative ways to bring in mod support for the PlayStation 4. This was after Sony declined the studio from implementing their game mods for the video game console.

Desperate "Fallout 4" fans are trying to assist Bethesda on how to bring in the mods on the PlayStation 4. A fan even made a video that details three possible ways to deliver it to the players. This video was then forwarded to Pete Hines, Bethesda's vice president of public relations and marketing, by another fan via Twitter. Hines personally replied to the suggestion, saying, "I assure you we don't lack for alternatives. We are trying to do the most possible for PS4 players."

Bethesda has revealed earlier this month that the Japanese multinational company has decided to block the release of user mods. The company stated in a press release that: "After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition."

The statement also mentioned how disappointed they were after months of discussion, not to mention the time and effort that the development team has put on for the mods support project. This also means that the mod content for "Fallout 4" and "Skyrim" will not arrive on the PlayStation 4, until they could find another way.

In another tweet from a fan, who blamed Bethesda for not actually starting a mod support for the PlayStation 4, Hines' reply was, "It was done and submitted to them."

Currently, "Fallout 4" players on the Xbox One have been enjoying the official mods since it was launched last May. Windows PC users have been enjoying official and unofficial mods for way longer. PlayStation Lifestyle reported that Hines even denied a rumor that there was an exclusive deal with Microsoft which made the mods available immediately to the Xbox One. He also added that they could have released the mods for the PlayStation 4 if it was up to them.
