'Falling Skies' season 5: Filming tragedy as security guard killed on set during filming

TNT has released an official statement following a tragic accident that happened on the set of the sci-fi drama "Falling Skies." The crew was setting up for a shoot for the fifth season of the show when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to Deadline, "A Teamsters security guard (Local 155) was killed Monday night on the set of TNT's sci-fi drama 'Falling Skies' when he was struck by an unattended truck that rolled down a hill and pinned him against a tree."

It was in a park at Burnaby, BC, around 8:30 p.m. when the accident happened. The name of the victim is Amrik Singh and he is 59 years old.

Spokesman for WorkSafeBC (British Columbia's Workers' Compensation Board) Scott McCloy is investigating the accident. He said "A five-ton truck parked on a 6% slope had been left unattended. The vehicle tailgate was lowered for off-loading of equipment. The truck rolled backwards down the slope and the deceased worker was caught between the tailgate and the tree."

Further, McCloy said that there will be further investigation on the matter headed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They'll investigate if there's something mechanically wrong with the truck.

As for TNT, a spokeswoman for the network said "We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and on behalf of the producers and TNT, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the security guard."

In more recent news, the BC Coroners Service released a statement as well, saying that the victim passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.

"Mr. Gill was immediately rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at hospital," the statement said.  "Mr. Gill's family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time."

Season 4 of "Falling Skies" ended last Aug. 31, and the series was picked up for another 10-episode season last July. The fifth season is the show's final run, and it is unfortunate that the accident happened just as the series is drawing to a close.

"Falling Skies" is a sci-fi TV series set in post-apocalyptic Boston where the main characters need to flee the area to escape, survive, and fight against aliens that have invaded the land. The series is produced by DreamWorks TV and Steven Spielberg, and features Noah Wyle as the protagonist, Tom Mason.
