Evangelical Alliance Launch ‘Eric the Evangelical’ to Guide Election Voters

The Evangelical Alliance UK has recently launched a new initiative to allow its followers to keep up to date and to receive comments on election issue as the General Election approaches on 5th May 2005. ‘Eric the Evangelical’ has been created by the EAUK as a satirical non-partisan cartoon figure, and can be found on the EAUK website.

The Evangelical Alliance website promotes Eric the Evangelical as a character who will take a "humorous, yet thoughtful look at campaigning in the run up to the general election."

The Head of the Evangelical Alliance’s Media Department, Helen Simms said, "For many people politics is a bit of a turn-off. We hope visitors to our website will enjoy Eric’s diary but we would also like them to take a look at the more serious issues addressed by our public affairs team."

The initiative has been developed to encourage Christians to investigate and delve deeper into the complex issues that are placed before voters in the election build-up.

The General-Director of the Evangelical Alliance, Joel Edwards said, "I encourage all Christians to grapple with the election issues. Eric has been observing the campaign but he also links people to a series of briefing notes on issues such as asylum, poverty and social exclusion, education and the environment. These are a good starting point for those still unsure how to vote on May 5th."
