On Sunday, April 20, Christians will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ in Easter celebrations around the world. From traditional masses and vigils to secular celebrations such as parades and egg hunts, there are dozens of Easter events taking place beginning from Good Friday through Easter Sunday 2014.
In New York City, there is the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival-- a centuries-old tradition in which participants wear their finest or most outrageous bonnets and march up Fifth Avenue. The parade is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and goes from E. 49th to E. 57th Streets. NYCGO suggests watching the parade from the area near St. Patrick's Cathedral (5th Ave. between E. 50th and E. 51st Streets).
Boston has one of the largest Catholic populations in the United States, and Cathedral of the Holy Cross (1400 Washington St.) is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. It is also one of the largest Roman Catholic churches in New England. Cathedral of the Holy Cross celebrates Holy Week with a series of prayer services, vigils, and masses, and also offers services in Spanish. Bubbles Academy (1504 N. Fremont St.) in Chicago will host its annual Egg Hunt in Wonderland on Saturday, April 19th. The learning center will offer a tea party, a visit from the Easter Bunny, live music, an egg hunt, art exploration, and more. Houston's First Baptist Church's Helicopter Easter Egg Drop is a fun, free event for children through fifth grade. Over 4,000 eggs will drop in the Sienna Amphitheater (9600 Scanlan Trace E, Missouri City) on Saturday, April 19th at 10 a.m. The church is selling breakfast tacos for $1, and providing free donut holes and Easter baskets.
