'Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris' developer sells cheap overpowered weapon to 'fix' PVP balance issue

It seems video game developers Bungie are having a hard time with game balance in their online-only first-person shooter "Destiny 2." Ever since the "Curse of Osiris" expansion came out, fans have been reporting balance issues in player vs. player (PVP) matches. The problem mostly stems from a weapon called the Prometheus Lens.

The Prometheus Lens is a bugged weapon that is so powerful it makes annihilating enemy players in the Crucible extremely easy. This laser weapon is a random drop on the game's higher level challenges, so naturally, not everyone can get their hands on it.

Those who do own the Prometheus Lens have reported that it breaks the PVP experience. A player even tweeted that getting hit by this "Laser Pointer of Doom" was akin to getting "instantly deleted."

Bungie has acknowledged the issue and said that they would be releasing a fix for the weapon next week. However, they would not want to cancel "Trials of the Nine," a highly-competitive PVP event that happens every weekend. So they had to find a temporary solution to the balance problems in the meantime.

Apparently, Bungie's idea of leveling the playing field was to just virtually give Prometheus Lens to anyone who wanted it — or anyone with enough legendary shards, at least.

As of Dec. 9, the overpowered weapon has been made for sale for 29 legendary shards. Players just need to find Xur in the European Dead Zone and buy the Prometheus Lens from him.

This means that instead of being an exclusive, high-level item drop, Prometheus Lens will be a standard weapon obtainable from a conventional merchant. It also means that "Trials of the Nine" will most likely be a collection of players toting the said weapon. Whoever pulls the trigger and hits the others first will win.

"Destiny 2" expansion "Curse of Osiris" was released on Dec. 5. The game was developed by Bungie and was published by Activision.
