'Dead Space' news: Survival horror game free to play on Origin

The original "Dead Space" is now available to download and play for free courtesy of Electronic Arts' (EA) Origin.

According to Origin's "On the House" program (for those who are not aware, it is a program wherein Origin give away games for free), the 2008 classic horror game is available at 100 percent off. It certainly is a must-have for players as not only is it a classic science-fiction game, it also is a fantastic deal to avail of as it currently retails at $19.99 on Steam. For players to avail themselves of this amazing offer, they have to make an Origin account first. After doing so, or if they already have theirs, they'll just have to head to the link on the "On the House" program at the start of this paragraph and click "Add to Game Library." The full version of "Dead Space" will be for the players to keep.

According to the Origin description of the game, players will take on the role of Isaac Clarke — a ships systems engineer on the mining spacecraft USG Ishimura. He is neither a warrior nor a soldier, but he is the last line of defense between the remaining living crew and the Necromorphs. These zombie-alien hybrids were from corpses of the crew that were reanimated by an alien plague.

To defeat the Necromorphs, Clarke must use a combat mechanism called "strategic dismemberment." Unlike most shooting games, shooting Necromorphs in their heads won't kill them — rather, as the combat mechanism's name suggests, they must be finished off by strategically cutting their weak body parts. And because Clarke is an engineer and he is on a mining spaceship, the tools he will be using to defeat the undead are improvised from mining tools.
