'CS:GO' news: FPS now has its own Battle Royale community server

It was only a matter of time until players of "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" (CS:GO) started improvising and making their own versions of the Battle Royale mode popularized by "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG).

Now, a German "CS:GO" player and web developer named Kinsi has created a community server which is a mimicry of the Battle Royale mode in "PUBG," where dozens of players compete with each other in a King of the Hill-type deathmatch, and the last man standing wins. The difference between the Battle Royale for "PUBG" and "CS:GO" is that it the latter's is custom made for the competitive first-person shooter (FPS) and will likely have fewer player support compared to the 100-man matches of "PUBG."

The community server is named "Go 4 the Kill," and it uses a map named br_electrified in-game which resembles the Mediterranean Erangel map in "PUBG." It is essentially a mountain range with some small towns. Players worried about the scale of the matches need not fret too much as it is four times the size of Overpass, which is one of "CS:GO's" largest official maps. This means there is plenty of space for players to run around before bumping into each other and eventually start shooting.

The catch with the community server, however, is that it only allows for up to 20 players, which will significantly shorten the amount of time spent per match. It does feature the same mechanics, but players are limited to the first-person view as well, unlike in "PUBG" which allows for an over-the-shoulder camera.

Still, the custom server and modded map are quite impressive for a game as limited as "CS:GO." Kinsi has definitely pushed the boundaries of what can be done with the aging graphics engine. The said mod is actually just four maps pieced together and hidden by mountain passes, where crossing the said mountains is actually a transition into a different map.

"CS:GO" players interested in trying out the custom Battle Royale mode for the FPS can go to the official website of Kinsi.
