Conspiracy theorists targeting Sutherland Springs shooting church arrested

Two conspiracy theorists, who claim the mass shooting at Sutherland Springs church was staged by the US government in order to target gun laws, have been arrested.

Robert Ussery, 54, and Jodi Mann, 56, were found hanging a poster with the words 'the truth shall set you free' on a memorial dedicated to victims.

When confronted by First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs pastor Frank Pomeroy, Ussery went on a foul-mouthed rant, denying the shooting took place and demanding to see the birth certificate of Pomeroy's 14-year-old daughter, who was killed in the attack. 'Show me anything to say she was here,' he said according to Pomeroy.

Describing the incident Pomeroy said Ussery 'continually yelled and screamed and hollered and told me he was going to hang me from a tree and pee on me while I'm hanging'.

He told the San Antonio Express: 'He kept trying to bait us to do something dumb.'

Another church member called the police who arrested the couple for harassment.

Ussery and Mann are part of a conspiracy theorist group that believes the mass shootings are hoaxes organised by the US Department of Homeland Security. On Ussery's website Side Thorn, he also claims the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, never happened.
