Coldplay return to top of album charts

Coldplay held off a surge from resurgent seventies group ABBA to bounce back to the top of the album charts after being ousted for a week, the Official UK Charts Company said on Sunday.

"Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" had already enjoyed five previous weeks at number one until it was pushed into second last week by "Now You're Gone - the Album" from Swedish DJ Jonas Erik Altberg, known as Basshunter.

Last week's chart topper dropped to third spot behind "Gold", the greatest hits of ABBA who have seen sales receive a huge boost after the release of the film version of the musical "Mamma Mia!".

Welsh singer Duffy was unchanged in fourth place with "Rockferry" while Sharleen Spiteri, former singer with the band Texas, was in fifth with "Melody".

There were two new entries in the top 10, "I Believe - The Very Best Of" by Irish 1960s group The Bachelors in seventh place and "Beautiful Future" by Primal Scream in ninth.

Topping the compilation chart was "Now That's What I Call Music 70" which sold 383,002 copies, more than the rest of the top 20 best-selling albums combined.

"Dance Wiv Me" by rapper Dizzee Rascal stayed top of the singles chart with Kid Rock climbing to second with "All Summer Long" and "No Air" by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks with Chris Brown in third place.
