It has been confirmed that Lelouch will be returning in another "Code Geass" anime series. Anime News Network

It has been years since the last installment was released for the "Code Geass" franchise. Recently, it has been confirmed that the series will return for another anime run as well as a new film trilogy.

According to Anime News Network, studio Sunrise announced the news during the 10th anniversary event for "Code Geass." It was welcome news to fans who have been waiting for a continuation of the series for some time. Although the franchise has been effectively closed off with the second season of the anime adaptation, the series run has also left some major questions unanswered.

In the event, it has been confirmed that a continuation to "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion" will be released. [Spoiler Alert] The upcoming adaptation is expected to be a direct sequel since it is revealed that Lelouch himself, and not a clone, will appear in the new anime. It will also be set years after the "Zero Requiem" event in the last anime show and will not be an alternate dimension story. The new anime adaptation will be dubbed as "Code Geass: Fukkatsu no Lelouch" or "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection."

Meanwhile, aside from the new anime run, the franchise will also get a new film trilogy, a condensed version detailing the events from the first series runs. The first of the three-part film will premiere next year. In addition, it is also revealed that aside from the "re-run," the series' spinoff will also get a remaster and will be released on home video early next year.

The anime adaptation of the series began with "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion" in 2006, and continued with "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2" in 2008. There was also a series spin-off, "Code Geass: Akito the Exiled OVA" which was set in between the two anime seasons. It premiered in 2012 as a five-part series.
