CM Punk rumor spreads that wrestler was arrested over SummerSlam weekend

There's a very weird rumor going around on Twitter that former World Wrestling Entertainment Heavyweight Champion CM Punk was arrested. There were no further details given, but the "CM Punk arrested" hashtag was spreading fast.

According to WhatCulture, the search phrase "CM Punk Arrested" was trending over the weekend.

How much? Try typing CM Punk on Twitter's search bar, the first suggested phrase will be "CM Punk arrested." And adding to the weirdness is that the arrest reportedly happened during the WWE SummerSlam weekend.

Up until Monday morning CM Punk was also a trending topic on Yahoo.com. Even after the SummerSlam weekend, Punk is the only wrestling related trending topic. It's surprising to see that Punk's name is trending more than John Cena or Brock Lesnar's, who had their championship fight last Sunday.

This led people to wonder why the so-called retired wrestler has remained so popular despite not being part of the WWE since January of this year. It is clear that people still talk about him, but why trend now when he's been out of the company for months?

CM Punk's arrest rumors have not been confirmed via the internet. WhatCulture says that there's no known reason why the search phrase was even trending. According to WhatCulture, the rumor is the work of online trolls. Or better yet, CM Punk's fans just miss him so much since he wasn't present in the WWE SummerSlam 2014.

Many believed the trending term, but WhatCulture remains doubtful if the story is true at all. Nevertheless, if CM Punk was arrested, it couldn't have happened over the weekend. It is more probable that the arrest happened before he left WWE. Let's see how this story develops in the coming days, if there is any truth to the rumor after all.
