Cleveland Cavaliers free agency rumors: Cavs aiming at Chris 'Birdman' Andersen?

It seems that one of the key players that the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to snag at this point in the free agency roundup is the Birdman, Chris Andersen.

Being a free agent from his stint in the Miami Heat, ESPN reports that a mini-reunion may be in the works, at least for Andersen and ex-Miami Heat teammate Lebron James. This stems from a statement of head coach Tyronn Lue, hinting that the Birdman is being talked into a deal in the Cavs to be alongside King James. However, a source inside the Cavs reportedly told Fox 8 Cleveland that there is nothing to confirm about the deal at this point. With the presumed addition of Andersen in the roster, the industry follower believes the Birdman will be a close support and center backup for Tristan Thompson, particularly since Timofey Mozgov has signed up with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent.

Andersen has played together with James for the Miami Heat for close to two years, the highlight of which is winning a championship in 2013. The Birdman is going on his 15th season in the league, though las season, he was traded by Miami Heat to the Memphis Grizzlies after seven games. Playing on both teams netted Andersen with 27 games, averaging 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds. Meanwhile, his career highlights average for 5.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks, starting with his rookie year in November 2001.

Andersen's long career also has its share of low points. He missed the 2006-2007 season and most of the follow-up matches due to a two-year suspension for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy. He resumed playing starting on March 2008.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers has also started an aggressive stance on free agency sign-ups. While still in talks with Andersen, the team has already signed Mike Dunleavy, while trading Matthew Dellavedova.
