The Cleveland Browns experienced an anxious moment during Monday's practice after left tackle Joe Thomas hurt his leg and ankle when rookie defensive lineman Danny Shelton rolled on to his leg in an 11-on-11 drill.

Thomas was screaming in pain and was attended to by trainers before he headed to the locker room, leaving practice early.

The eight-time Pro Bowler did not suffer any major injury, according to the Browns, and did not need to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) but was required to have a standard examination, ESPN reported.

According to ESPN, the Browns might rest Thomas in their preseason games against the Washington Redskins and the Buffalo Bills which will give them time to see how first-round pick Cam Erving perform at left tackle.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine said it is still uncertain if Thomas will play in their preseason games and their decision will not be related to what occurred Monday, according to a report by Cleveland.com.

The report added that Thomas did not practice Tuesday not because of the injury but because it is his veteran's rest day.

The 30-year-old football player also discussed about the incident that happened to his leg in Monday's practice and said he was okay right after he stood up.

"By the time I got up, I've been hurt enough to know when you're really hurt and when you're ok, and I knew pretty quick I was ok," Thomas said, according to Cleveland.com.

He added, "When you have 700 pounds falling on your leg, you're pretty concerned. But once I got up I knew it wasn't too bad. It's just kind of a minor little ding more than anything. But I should be back in a couple days."

Thomas also said he has had a number of injuries in the past including three medial collateral ligament (MCL) tears and  two high ankle sprains with Cleveland and what happened last Monday is nothing compared to what he experienced before.
