Churches in Australia unite to tell about Jesus

Hundreds of churches in the Australian state of New South Wales will come together this weekend and next for the Jesus All About Life (JAAL) Giving Sunday.

Churches of all denominations have been asked to dedicate July 12 or July 19 to the campaign, which aims to introduce the whole state to Jesus.

The Bible Society's JAAL campaign was developed as a radical step to bring the message of Jesus to the Australian community. Previously run in South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, the campaign is designed to get people in New South Wales talking about the relevance of Jesus in their everyday life.

Local church involvement for the JAAL campaign is crucial for its success. Supported by church events and activities such as JAAL Giving Sunday, the campaign aims to raise awareness of Jesus, encourage participation and involvement and facilitate a cultural shift with the way Christian denominations engage with the community. Christians are encouraged to use their local church as the delivery point to talk about their personal perspectives on faith with non-Christians.

"The church needs to take radical steps to increase our presence," says Bible Society CEO Daniel Willis. "So we have launched Jesus All about life. The JAAL campaign will not contain the gospel message, but will be a presence in the community so that all Australians will consider faith as an option."

The Bible Society wants to see churches get involved in JAAL Giving Sunday as the first step in building a successful campaign. A pack has been distributed to all churches in New South Wales, providing churches with resources for the day.
