Christian grandfather Joe McKeever, who is the retired missions director for the New Orleans Baptist Association, wants nothing but the best for his granddaughters.
As young as they are right now, he is already sharing with them some life tips that would hopefully lead them towards the right path—and the right man.
McKeever writes in a letter submitted to The Christian Post that there are seven kinds of men that his granddaughters, and every other girl, should stay far away from.
1. Lazy Guy
The first on his list is the lazy guy. "No matter if he's charming and sweet-talks you and thinks you are the best thing ever (which you are!), do not be taken in by him," warns McKeever. "If he can't hold a job and prefers to live off the earnings of others, marrying a bum like him would be a disaster. You will be the breadwinner for your entire married life. Marry a hard worker."
2. Disrespectful Man
The second man to avoid is someone disrespectful. McKeever says that girls can already get a good hint about a man's personality when they see how he treats his family members. "That's how he will be treating you eventually," he says. "Do not be taken in by a charmer if he's not respectful to his mother and sisters. These guys tend to become abusive to their wives and children."
3. The Slob
The next guy that has McKeever's seal of disapproval is the slob. If the guy expects people to pick up after him, McKeever said that girls should already be alarmed. "It's also a clue to other character flaws. Mostly, it shows his immaturity. Marry an adult who takes responsibility," he said.
4. The Drug Addict
Fourth on his list is the drug addict. Even if he's only into painkillers and stimulants, it's best that girls ditch him. "He will say he can quit anytime, and maybe he can. But cut him out of your life. You do not need this complication. Drugs are killers. No exception!" he stressed. "Marry someone smart, not stupid. Someone healthy and strong, not weak and addicted."
5. Critical Guy
McKeever also does not want his granddaughters to end up with someone critical. For him, the guy who often finds fault in everything is a "loser." A girl should find a man who is humble enough to know that he needs God.
6. 'Disaster Looking to Happen'
The doting grandfather also does not like a guy who cannot take control of his finances. This guy is "a disaster looking to happen" and his wife will end up paying his bills for the rest of her life.
7. The User
Lastly, McKeever says that girls should stay away from users. "This guy uses people. He manipulates them, and will soon be trying those tactics on you. Do not argue with him. Just get rid of him as soon as you can. And change your phone number because he does not like to take 'no' for an answer," he says. "Marry someone who loves to bless people and gets joy from helping them."
