Christian charity promotes deserving causes in north London

A north London Christian charity is holding an open day on Saturday to launch a wide range of community awards it seeks to present to deserving local causes in this autumn.

The Life Gateway Project is based at the Fountain Gate Chapel in the Seven Sisters area.

Grant Bulmuo, pastor of the church and director of operations at Life Gateway, said the project was geared towards reforming lives and improving communities.

Life Gateway already offers a weekend supplementary school with fully qualified teachers offering courses in maths, science and ICT. It also runs a youth engagement project which includes a music recording studio as well as a media training centre.

"The aim is to provide an alternative for young people especially those on the cusp of crime, an avenue to channel their energies into productive ventures," he said.

Mr Grant has invited community leaders and members of the public to see and experience some of the various projects they are undertaking.

The open day features businesses exhibiting their products and services, a food fair, games, beauty therapy.

Stands on the day will offer locals advice on immigration, social services, finance and health advisory stands.

The open day will also see the launch of Lifeway's community and education awards.

Mr Grant added: “The awards will seek to recognise community contributions and educational excellence, and we want local people to put forward local schools, businesses, community groups and churches for awards.”
