Christian Aid pays tribute to Pete Postlethwaite

Christian Aid has paid tribute to British actor Pete Postlethwaite, who died last Sunday.

The actor was involved with the charity in a number of ways, taking part in a Christian Aid campaign asking the UK Government to end its support for the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Most recently he starred in the film, 'The Age of Stupid', which was supported by Christian Aid's youth website Ctrl Alt Shift.

He also did the voiceover for Christian Aid's regular giving television advertising campaign, 'Survive'.

Christian Aid Director Loretta Minghella said: "The death of Pete Postlethwaite deprives us of a hugely talented actor and someone who was passionate about global justice and ending poverty.

"Our prayers are with his family and friends."

The actor died at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer. He was described by director Steven Spielberg as "the best actor in the world".

He starred in films including ‘The Usual Suspects’, ‘Inception’, ‘Amistad’ and ‘Brassed Off’ and was nominated for an Oscar in 1994 for ‘In The Name Of The Father’.
