'Call the Midwife' season 5 spoilers: Former star Jessica Raine slams women's 'feeble' roles

Just like her opinionated and no non-sense character Nurse Jenny Lee on BBC One's period drama "Call the Midwife" who speaks strongly about a working condition which will compromise her values, actress Jessica Raine did the same to express her disdain about the abundance of feeble parts for women in the acting industry.

In an interview with the Independent posted on The New Review magazine Sunday, the actress said her piece regarding the unequal job opportunities for actors and actresses.

"It's amazing the number of poorly written women out there," the 32-year-old actress said.

However, the former lead star of "Call the Midwife" is still optimistic about the situation.

"I'm not moaning – I've played some great women – but the situation needs to keep changing," Raine said.

The actress left the show after its third season when her character decided to change careers and care for terminally ill patients in Hampstead's Marie Curie Hospital instead of taking care of pregnant mothers and their newborn children in Nonnatus House.

But if Raine decided to leave the show, a Netflix star would want to take her place if given a chance.

Kate Mulgrew, the actress who is more popularly known as Litchfield Penitentiary's Russian inmate Red in "Orange Is the New Black," said that she would love to be part of the BBC One show.

"You know what I'd love to do? I'd love to do 'Call the Midwife'. I LOVE 'Call the Midwife'. I want you to put it out there, I want to play the Irish nun who comes in and wreaks havoc," the 60-year-old actress said.

However, Mulgrew is still tied to her Netflix project, which she and the rest of the cast are currently working on for its fourth season. If Mulgrew really wants to join Miranda Hart, Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Judy Parfitt, Helen George, Bryony Hannah, and Laura Main in the future seasons of "Call the Midwife," then she probably needs to finish her contract with "OITNB" first.

"Call the Midwife" season 5 is expected to air in the U.K. in 2016, while the fourth season will air in the U.S. in December through PBS.
