Boxing rumors 2015: Marcos Maidana not totally walking away from boxing

Marcos Maidana last took the ring when he faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in September 2014. That was the year when he faced only Mayweather and with that in mind, one can imagine the millions he made from those two fights. His first match with Mayweather was on May 3, 2014.

The fact that he fought Mayweather twice already indicates that the Argentine pug had likely taken home millions of dollars, something that should get him settled. And from the looks of it, Maidana did invest it wisely over in Argentina and likely something that would secure him a comfortable life moving forward.

So with that said, many assumed that Maidana is with boxing. Why would he need to fight if he already had it made?

"With the money I've won, I've invested well. I'm doing things that give me good money and I do not need to fight," says Maidana via Boxingscene.

It seems that the 32-year-old boxer still has that competitive spirit inside of him and that has kept him from closing doors to boxing. Such is not surprising for competitors, though he may have a long road ahead if he is to fight again.

Boxingscene.com reports that right now, Maidana may be overweight. Based on the pictures of the former two-time division champion, many believe that he now could be possibly weighing close to 180 pounds.

With that amount of excess weight, trainer Robert Garcia believes that Maidana may need several months at the least to shed off those extra pounds and get back into shape.

But with a seemingly comfortable life, the only thing that could pull him back is hunger to win and the spirit of competition. He showed that during his first fight with Mayweather and was rewarded lucratively for it in the process.

However, the long layoff and future plans may not exactly be bright, considering the many big names he has to face right now in the division.
