'Bones' Season 10 spoilers: Conspiracy theories, Booth in prison, and character changes

"Bones" season 10 will have all characters evolving, now that conspiracy theories start to unravel. Each cast member will have to find his or her place in the grand scheme of things.

Previous spoilers for the 10th season already specified that David Boreanz's character Booth will survive the gun shot but will be in prison. He wakes up after healing from his gun wound only to discover that he was being set up. Booth makes it a mission to dig deep and find out who is setting him up and unravel the conspiracy theory that broke his team apart.

Stephen Nathan, executive producer of "Bones" shared to TVGuide about what will happen in season 10 and why he prefers to take the conspiracy theory route than the typical serial killer plotline. Nathan explains, "The pain of their separation as well as the uncertainty of how this is going to play out is really how we wanted to leave the audience because it does a few things for us. It confirms this relationship which everybody has invested in and it solidifies that even more. Season 10 will start with all of this unresolved baggage, but with the determination of Brennan and Booth and the squints to draw this very painful and ugly chapter to a close," on transitioning from season 9 to season 10.

Nathan also explained why he doesn't want to use a serial killer plot, saying: "We wanted Booth and Brennan and the audience hanging in sort of a rage of uncertainty. We wanted to put them in a situation that they haven't really been in before. They've always been able to trust the FBI [and] the organizations they worked for. Rather than go with a traditional serial killer format, we wanted to try and take the show in another direction, at least temporarily, to have Booth and Brennan take on some force that is far larger, far more vague than anything they've dealt with before. We caught the Ghost Killer, but there's still a ghost out there, some kind of adversary that still remains unseen and unidentifiable at the end of this season."

Nathan explained it in the best way possible and shared something about the characters in the show. "Everybody is going to be evolving. It's a time in people's lives where they go, 'Let me find out what it is I really want and how I can be most valuable.' That's what we're drawing from for Season 10." Emily Deschanel further proved this point when she told E! News that there will be "a lot of changes for our characters."

"Bones" Season 10 will air this fall on Fox, 8pm on Thursdays.
