Bible the only item to survive devastating fire that destroyed Christian family's home

A family from South Carolina is trying to rebuild their lives after losing everything in a devastating house fire that also killed their two dogs. Among the rubble and ashes, however, Wendy Crawley's Bible remained intact and it's the one thing keeping the family's spirit up.

Crawley told the press that when she closes her eyes she could still hear the fire crackling. But what happened to their home of 17 years did not actually impact her until three days after, as she returned to the house to examine the damage.

The homeowner could not believe her Bible was still on her nightstand without any of the pages burned or destroyed. The Bible was wet and had some slight smoke damage, but the pages remained intact.

Crawley took this as a great sign from God that He's still there in the midst of their devastating experience. She also took this as a reminder that there will always be something good, despite one's situation. It made her faith in God stronger.

"It's easy to find God when things are going good, but when you step in the midst of all of that and find him, it's comforting," Crawley said.

Firefighters suspect that the space heaters around the house might have caused the fire. The investigation is still ongoing, and the family must wait to see if their home insurance will pay out compensation. For now, the family is staying at her parents' home.

The family, however, is still devastated because their pet dogs did not make it out of the house alive. One dog was with them for 15 years and another was a service dog for her son with autism.

This is not the first time a Bible miraculously survived a fire, though. In 2016, Jerry Bowyer from the Affluent Christian Investor shared a story about finding a Bible intact from the Flight 93 wreckage following the 9/11 attacks, and it was left "open to the First Book of Kings, Chapters 13 through 15."
