Bayonetta 2, an action game developed by Platinum Games and published by Nintendo, will be available in Japan on Sept. 20, and in Europe and North America on Oct. 24. The Sega-owned franchise follows the format of the original game and features the same protagonist; but unlike its predecessor, Bayonetta 2 won't be available in PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Bayonetta is a single-player, third-person combat action game wherein players have to use weapons and combination attacks to defeat multiple enemies. The second installment features a new two-player mode, as well as numerous improvements from its predecessor.

"For example, in the first Bayonetta, if you take damage, your vitality gauge turns red," explains Hisayoshi Kijima of the Bayonetta game's UI (user interface) division. "It's simply systematic cause and effect. This time, in Bayonetta 2, we created a flash of red light that hits the gauge and makes it reflect red when damage is taken."

The cut-scenes also promise to be interesting, According to the Kunihiko Tsuda of the cut-scene production of the game, "I can promise you that the script is every bit as crazy as the first game (if not considerably more so), so you'll just have to play the game and see for yourself!"

Bayonetta, according to Tsuda, has "changed and grown as person" and her choice of clothes has changed as well. It's been noted that she now sports a different hairstyle, and can select the costume at the start of the game. The sequel takes place a few months after the end of the first game, when she embarks on an adventure to the depths of hell to save her friend Jeanne.
