'Battlefront II' news: EA DICE announces plans to revamp player progression

"Battlefront II" received a lot of controversy on release due its microtransaction policies. EA DICE

Developer EA DICE is finally listening to feedback and has announced that they are working on rebuilding and revamping the controversial progression in "Battlefront II." Unfortunately, players will have to wait until March to find out just exactly how they plan to do about it.

According to a recently released blog post, the development team behind the infamous "Star Wars" shooter will be making big changes to how players progress in the game.

"Your feedback has been essential here, and we are preparing significant changes to progression that will address many of the things we've seen players asking for," they said, adding, "We'll be sharing more details about these changes in March."

While it is uncertain exactly what they plan to do, it is a bit refreshing to see the team conceding that the system that launched with the game was just not good. It was a system that emphasized purchasing microtransactions and loot boxes just so that players would have a decent chance of performing well in multiplayer matches. As to be expected, people were incredibly vocal at how dissatisfied they were with it.

The feedback for this system was so bad that EA DICE actually disabled all in-game purchases right before the game launched in November 2017, even though it is no secret that the damage had already been done and "Battlefront II" came out with a poor reputation.

However, while players wait for March to get any actual information about the new system, EA DICE has announced a few other things to quell the tide and perhaps distract people until then. In February, they plan to release a new game mode called Jetpack Cargo which will see two teams of eight face off with each other while equipped with jetpacks. They have also announced that a new season of content will be coming soon.

Will this decision be enough to redeem "Battlefront II" and EA DICE in the eyes of gamers? They at least seem optimistic about it and there is really nothing that can be done other than to wait and see just what they have in store.
