With the release of "Battlefield 1" due in just a matter of weeks, developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts detail some of the highlights of the new game. A new gameplay video showcasing at least 12 minutes of opening gameplay of the single-player campaign has been released.

The video was taken from the "Storm of Steel" mission, a part of the single-player story in "Battlefield 1." The new footage highlights close quarters combat in the open-world sandbox that has been improved in the upcoming game. The video also highlights one of the improvements made in the campaign story mode of "Battlefield 1." Instead of a single main character like in previous "Battlefield" installments, "Battlefield 1" allows gamers to play through the missions using different protagonists. The campaign story in the upcoming installment is spread across five different "War Stories."

This is a big improvement over other first-person shooters that have been recently released, as well as in previous "Battlefield" installments. In an announcement regarding the single player campaign, publisher EA highlighted that they made sure the game will be as close to real life as possible. EA wrote in a blog post: "In Battlefield 1 you'll experience a series of what we call War Stories: personal stories focusing on different protagonists with unique backgrounds and skills. While our characters are at war, the stories in Battlefield 1 are personal. They're about people rather than history or battles."

Meanwhile, aside from the new gameplay video, Electronic Arts has also published a teaser, hinting that one of the highlights of the entire "War Stories" campaign is a battle featuring the Ottoman Empire. The new footage is from "The Runner" campaign, where the player takes on the role of an Anzac messenger, delivering messages across the battlefield.

"Battlefield 1" is scheduled to launch on Oct. 21 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
