'Attack on Titan' season 2 plot: Royal intrigue to be a central theme of the series

The second season of "Attack on Titan" is expected to dive deeper into the storylines involving the royal family of the series.

According to Crossmap, the true royal family of the "Attack on Titan" series is not the one currently portrayed, and is instead made up of members of the Reiss family, but that's not the only surprising characteristic of this clan.

Aside from being the legitimate blue bloods of the show, the Reiss family also possesses a unique ability that enables them to transform into Titans. The second season of the show is even expected to showcase one member of the family, Kevin Ackerman, as a Titan.

Still, as intriguing as next season's storylines may be for many members of the Ackerman clan, one member of the family in particular will be a focal point of the show when it comes back.

None other than Levi Ackerman himself is rumored to be one of the characters who might be killed off in the second season of "Attack on Titan."

Levi will reportedly die in the middle of his attempt to rescue members of his squadron, although the exact cause of his death and who might have been behind it is still unknown. Fans can expect that emotional event to be a main focus of "Attack on Titan's" second season.

Recently, a sneak preview of the show's second season made its way online courtesy of a fan, Moviepilot reported.

The short footage shows Hanji confronting someone in an attempt to learn more about the Titans that reside in the walls, although it does not appear as if she received all the answers she wanted.

Other, more unusual types of Titans are also expected to show up in the second season of the show.

As of now, there's no exact premiere date for the second season of "Attack on Titan," although it will be coming out sometime in 2016.
