Anglican Evangelical Assembly Set to Revive Worldwide Communion

The Church of England Evangelical Council has announced it will bring together two issues of crisis as its focus on the urgency of mission revival at its forthcoming Anglican Evangelical Assembly due to be held in London, on 1 October.

The Assembly, under the title ‘Mission in Crisis’, will look at the urgency of mission revival ‘to a needy world’, as well as the current split in the Communion which has reached crisis proportions.

Paragraph 12 of the Dromantine Communique summed up the double-barrelled crisis when it said: “The underlying reality of our communion in God the Holy Trinity is obscured, and the effectiveness of our common mission severely hindered.”

The Assembly will start with a Bible reading by Rev Andy Lines, the General Secretary of Crosslinks, on the theme of God’s mission to God’s world.

Two seminars are also scheduled for the event, one under the title ‘Continuing in Crisis’ led by the Rt Rev Robinson Cavalcanti of Recife, Brazil, and Rev Canon David Anderson, President of the American Anglican Council.

The second seminar, ‘Continuing in Mission’ will be led by the Rt Rev Dr Samson Mwaluda, the Diocese of Kenya representative to the ACC.

Canon David Anderson will lead the final session of the afternoon addressing listeners on “how the Communion can serve God’s mission purpose, as long as it is held together by the supremacy of Christ and the scriptures.”

In addition to the speakers, the Rev Steve James will lead the day’s praise and reflection.
