It has been a while since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt starred in a movie together. The real-life couple met on the set of the 2005 film, "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," and from there, the two went on to have a relationship and are now raising six children. Pitt and Jolie tied the knot last year in an intimate ceremony in France, and the two spent their honeymoon working on their new film called "By the Sea," a drama set in the '70s, which was also directed by the Oscar-winning actress.

In a new behind-the-scenes featurette for the movie, the two talked about working together after 10 years, and Jolie said that when she was writing the script, she never thought that she and her husband "would actually do it."
"I never assumed we'd actually do it, so I wrote with a certain kind of freedom," said Jolie.

Pitt said that there were certain advantages to having his wife direct the film as they had a lot of freedom during filming.

"We can experiment and play and it's oddly a safer environment than any set I've been on before, so we let loose!" said the "Ocean's Eleven" star.

The film is about a former dancer named Vanessa and her writer husband Roland, who are traveling the French countryside together in a bid to save their crumbling marriage. The film, which was shot on the Mediterranean Isle of Gozo, has a lot of dramatic and emotional moments as the couple is seen fighting and hitting each other, with Jolie's character seen popping pills and having a meltdown at one point in the featurette.

Pitt said that being in "By the Sea" was "absolutely challenging, one of the most challenging things I've taken on." Jolie added that she was "so happy" that her husband was willing to try the project.

"This is the only film I've done that is completely based on my own crazy mind," she told Vogue.

While some speculated that the film echoes their real-life marriage, Jolie told magazine that the movie was "not autobiographical."

"If the characters were even remotely close to our problems we couldn't have made the film," she explained.

She added that as artists, they wanted to work on something that would take them out of their comfort zones.

"It's not the safest idea," she admitted. "But life is short."

"By the Sea" premieres on Nov. 13.
